The Public News Choice Vol. I ยท No. 233 Independent

How to read this paper

A short guide to the wire, the map, and the broadsheet โ€” so you do not mistake us for a feed.

Start at the masthead. The date is the edition. If a story is marked breaking, it is moving; if it is marked independent, it came from a desk that does not answer to a conglomerate.

The map is not a toy. Pins mark where the story is happening, or where the desk that filed it sits. Spiking means the public is on it now. Rising means the last hour mattered. Active means the piece is still in circulation.

The wire at the bottom is the old-fashioned list: rank, summary, desk, time, readership. Click the row and the paper opens. Not a social card. A page.

We ingest independent RSS so the record does not depend on a single editor's morning mood. We also write our own desk pieces and take corrections. If we get it wrong, we will say so on the same page, not in a footnote after the traffic dies.

This is the deal. We will not manage your feelings. We will try not to waste your time.
